Junior Underwriter

Please note, this is a remote role based in one of the 23 States Ladder is currently hiring in - AZ, CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IA, KS, MA, MD, MN, NC, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, TX, VA, WA, WI with the exception of the following cities: SF Bay Area, New York City, and Seattle. 

About Ladder

We saw a problem within the life insurance industry: getting covered took too long, involved too much paperwork, and required too many in-person meetings with sales agents. Having lost his father at a young age, our CEO, Jamie, was determined to make it easier for people to get the coverage they needed to provide for their families. So, we got to work. We developed a method of real-time underwriting leveraging AI and, in doing so, reduced the months-long process of applying for life insurance to minutes. What You’ll Do

•Manage a variety of support and follow up items with the goal of keeping business flowing

efficiently

•Work closely with the Customer Operations to answer underwriting-related questions
•Perform line underwriting on individual term life cases, evaluating medical and personal history on

applications up to $1 million face amount

•Analyze medical, personal and financial data from both traditional and innovative data sources to

make final decisions

•Manage varying volumes of application review within set quality standards and turnaround times 
•Work closely with a peer mentor as part of your continued development as a proficient life

underwriter

•Report to the Underwriting Manager

Who You Are

•A master of collaboration who is comfortable working with many cross-functional stakeholders

Experience Required 

•5+ years of life insurance industry experience at a leading carrier or reinsurer
•Acted as a support resource for life underwriters or undergone training to be a life underwriter
•Worked in new business workflows
•Managed follow ups of underwriting requirements
•Learned the life cycle of an application and basic processing standards
•Demonstrated interest in being part of a collaborative team to better serve en

Base pay for this role is determined by the location where the work will be performed and is aligned with the two compensation tiers, as indicated below. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and business needs. In addition to the base pay range listed below, this role is also eligible for equity and benefits as shared above.

Tier 2 & Tier 3 (All other locations that Ladder hires with eh exception of San Francisco and New York)

 $55,500- $69,200
