Job description

ABOUT BASE

Base is America’s next-generation power company. We’re rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization–electricity–by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries that is transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. We are engineers, operators, and creatives solving some of the most complex, interdisciplinary challenges of our time.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Base's Finance & Business Operations team combines financial planning & analysis with business decision-making & strategy across our vertically integrated business, directly supporting Base's leadership team. We map our work to the core functions of the business, like go to market, deployments, engineering, and manufacturing, and we embed in both the daily operations and long-term planning of these functions. Team members are expected to be sharp analysts who can make the best decisions for the company and implement them, and high-EQ partners to our teammates as we make tough business and financial decisions. Base does not have a centralized strategy, strategic finance, analytics, corporate development, or related functions; this team is our equivalent of each of these things at similar companies.

As our MBA intern, you'll get a real piece of that work for the summer, not a side project. You'll take a defined slice of whatever the team is running right now and drive it to a decision.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

•Build the model, own a forecast and plan vs. actuals, define and drive operating metrics, and work with teammates across the business to achieve our highest-priority goals.
•Provide strategic insights and conclusions based on your analysis, and defend your assumptions to the people who have to hit them.
•Support planning and resource management for a specific operating function (e.g., headcount, make-buy decisions, investment approvals).
•Identify initiatives that improve Base's financial performance and outlook.
•Own a discrete project end to end, such as a workstream in an acquisition integration, a business plan for a new market or product entry, a cross-functional analytical program roll-out, or the scoreboard a team is missing, and leave behind something that still runs without you.
•Run work across functions without authority; rally owners in engineering, market operations, manufacturing, accounting, and customer operations around high-impact initiatives.
•Know the business and our team well: spend time on the factory floor, ride along on an install, and sit with the field, market operations, sales, and marketing teams.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

•Currently pursuing an MBA and returning for your second year in the fall.
•Experience modeling complex businesses and decisions, and communicating the outputs clearly.
•Familiarity with Excel and SQL, or a strong willingness to learn fast.
•Comfort operating without a map, leading cross-functional work without authority, and creating structure where none exists.
•Fluency working alongside AI: you know how to get great outputs, when to check its work, and when to drive the analysis yourself.

ABOUT THE TEAM

The Base business operations team is responsible for some of the company's highest-leverage outcomes: financing our growth, commercial partnerships, acquisitions and integrations, new market and product entries, and the programs that span too many teams to have a natural owner. It is a set of small teams of generalists who work directly with Base's founders, pick up the problem that matters most, build the structure and analysis it needs, and hand back something that runs itself.

Please note: Base is a startup, which means priorities shift and evolve quickly. Your role may expand or change based on the needs of the business at any given time, so the responsibilities listed may not be exhaustive.

OUR VALUES

•First Principles Thinking: Question assumptions. Principles > rules.
•Operate at Base Pace: Focus on what matters, act quickly, and learn by doing.
•Give & Get Feedback: Be direct, be humble, and maintain a growth mindset.
•Everyone’s an Owner: Follow through on commitments and own results.
•Strong Opinions, Loosely Held: Drive clarity and make calls with imperfect information.
•Committed to the Mission: Rebuilding the grid is a big challenge. We work hard because we care deeply about the impact we’re creating. We work in-person. It’s not a 9-to-5. We are all-in.
•Fun & Optimism Coexist with Grit: Collaboration and celebration coincide with the intensity of building real things.

DO THE BEST WORK OF YOUR LIFE AT BASE.
